West Peoria – Robert Patrick “Pat” Doyle, II, 85, of West Peoria, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at UnityPoint Health – Methodist in Peoria. He was born in Bloomington on September 6, 1935 to Robert “Bob” and Madalon (Young) Doyle. Pat married Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Lane on February 7, 1959 in Peoria. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on November 30, 2014.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Sue Doyle.
Pat is survived by his children, Rob (Denise) Doyle of Peoria, Dee (Paul) Basler of Carrollton, TX, and Katie (Don) Katz of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, Danielle (Jim) Theiss, Sarah Basler, Elizabeth (Jake) Hellige, Patrick (Kaitlyn) Doyle, Eric Katz, Nick Katz, and Madalyn Katz; one great-granddaughter and the twinkle of his eye, Nora Hellige; four brothers, Terry (Mary Jane), Mike (June), Denny (Carol), and Tim (Jolene), all of Peoria; and one sister, Mary (Dr. Calvin) Mein of San Antonio, TX.
Pat was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving 26 years of active and reserve duty. He worked as a Peoria firefighter for 28 years, retiring as a captain. He then went on to work for the Teamsters before retiring to spend more time at home with his family.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and rarely missed his grandchildren’s sporting events. Despite his hard exterior, he had a heart of gold and he would do anything for anyone. He could often be found sharing a few vitamin B’s with his buddies at Mike’s Tavern.
Pat was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Peoria and his funeral mass will be at held there at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020. Monsignor Brian Brownsey will officiate. His visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. also on Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria with full military honors accorded. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of Fatherless Boys or Peoria Firefighters Local #50 Charity Fund.
