He was born Nov. 25, 1925 in Cicero, IL to Charles and Anne (Habel) Brown. He married Frances J. Russeff in Peoria of Feb. 9, 1947. She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Steven (Peggy) Brown of Fort Worth, TX, Leann (Neal) O’Brien of Mendota; children he raised, Jennifer Dekett of Chicago, Stephanie Feucht of Chicago, Joseph Bretz of MN; three grandchildren, Cory Brown, Luke O’Brien, Clint O’Brien; two brothers, George and Charles Brown both of Peoria; and special friend, Nancy Kerr of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ed DeVore; and daughter, Sherie Lynn Brown.
Robert worked as a self employed carpenter/contractor. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving aboard 6 different battleships.
He was a member of the Wednesday Afternoon Golf League in the Peoria area and Old Timers Baseball League. He was also a member of First English Lutheran Church in Peoria.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 at First English Lutheran Church at 725 E. Forrest Hill Ave. in Peoria with Rev. Dr. James Lillie officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria and also one hour before services at his church on Thursday morning. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Children’s Home in Peoria or to Methodist Hospice.
