He was born August 19, 1934 in Virginia, IL to Paul and Frieda (Money) Cox. He married Jacquiline Gray of Peoria, IL on May 1, 1955.
He proudly worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 38 years before retiring. He was an avid sports fan, coaching Little League Baseball and followed his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals through five World Series in his lifetime. Dick enjoyed playing the guitar and singing gospel hymns with his sisters. He was a member of the Pekin Barber Shop Chorus. He loved to camp, fish and hunt with his family in his free time. He enjoyed wood working with his wife in their work shop at home. He never knew a stranger and always made everyone feel welcome.
He is survived by his wife Jackie; four children, Richard G. (Carolyn) Cox, Janet M. (Jim) Metzger, David A. (Dawn) Cox and John R. Cox, all of Dunlap, IL; five grandchildren; Stephanie D. (Kevin) Early, Angela M. Patterson, Matthew M. (Michele) Cox, Stacy L. Metzger, Beau R. (Elizabeth) Cox; nine great-grandchildren; Blake Cox Rosenbohm, Michael J. Cox, Tyler J. Patterson, Derek I. Cox, Megan M. Cox, Cole R. Cox, Allie M. Winters, Fiona D. Early, and Melissa D. Cox; four sisters, Jo Ann Megredy, Marilyn (Art) Brown, Barbara (Jim) Masten, Linda (Jim) Hughes and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria, IL. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with Rick Rogy officiating. Burial will be at Prospect Cemetery in Dunlap, IL.
