He was born on January 11, 1934 in Dubuque, IA to Thomas and Winifred (Morgan) Cox. He married Donna Steckel on January 30, 1960 in Dubuque, IA.
Surviving are his wife, Donna of Edwards, four children, Timothy (Julie) Cox of East Peoria, Karla Bothast of Peoria, Thomas (Stephanie) Cox of Peoria and Craig (Jason) Cox of Wyoming, IL; a daughter-in-law, Denise Cox of East Peoria; eleven grandchildren, Britt Bothast, Travis (Kelsey) Cox, Morgan (Nick) Erwin, Ryan (McKenzie) Cox, Bryce Bothast, Adam, Matthew, Trent, Tyler, Cole and Quinn Cox; five great-grandchildren, Lucy, Leland, Juliette, Shiloh, and Emerson Cox; and one brother, Paul Cox of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kevin Cox; six brothers and one sister.
Richard served in the U.S. Army and worked in Retail sales with Foster and Gallagher until retiring in 1983. He was avid Entrepreneur owning numerous Commercial and Residential Real Estate properties around central Illinois. Richard was a member of American Legion Post 2 in Peoria, enjoyed golfing and traveling to all fifty states with his wife. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and brother, who enjoyed spending time with his family.
A visiation will be on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 5 to 7 pm at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. A service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel in Peoria.
