She was born October 3, 1932 in India to Suryanarayana and Nagaratnam (Murukutla) Vanka. She married Guravappa Vuppuluri in India in 1948. He preceded her in death in 2002. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and four sisters.
Surviving are her two children, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four brothers, and two sisters.
Ratnamala grew up in a small village in India, but later resided in big cities, eventually arriving in Peoria, where she became a U.S. Citizen and lived the last twenty years. Ratnamala was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in caring for her family and others. She had a kind heart who was compassionate towards everyone she came in contact with. She was very inquisitive by nature and believed strongly in the value of education, always fascinated with science, technology and math. Ratnamala was well read and enjoyed reading Hindu Scriptures and Philosophy, as well as many works by her favorite authors like Somerset Maugham, Shakespeare, Pearl S. Buck and Oliver Goldsmith, to name a few.
A celebration of life will be from 3 to 5 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home, 2408 W. Willow Knolls Rd. in Peoria.
