She was born Oct. 22, 1924 in Canton to Frederick W. and Dorothy (Fink) Soldwell. She married Edward C. Thompson Sep. 6, 1947 in Peoria. He was the founder of the Thompson Food Basket grocery chain. He passed away Sep. 18, 1994 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Betty (U.S.) Mehl.
Survivors include one son, Thomas E. (Cynthia) Thompson of Peoria, one grandson, Thomas J. Thompson of Dunlap, and one great-granddaughter, Lily Henderson of Washington, IL.
Peggy graduated from Bradley University and was a member of Lamda Phi sorority. She and her husband enjoyed golf, tennis, traveling, the Chicago Cubs, and Bradley basketball. She was a member of Mt. Hawley Country Club, and was club champion in 1960. Peggy was a member of First Federated Church in Peoria.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be Thursday Aug. 25, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria.
Memorials may be made to First Federated Church, Peoria Children’s Home Association, or to the donor’s choice.
