He was born Nov. 21, 1930 in Decatur to Clark and Opal Gilpin. He first married Ruth Douglas Feb. 19, 1950. He later married Kathy Kantz July 11, 1992 in Brimfield. She survives along with his four daughters: Ann (Paul) Pinther, Susan (Tom) Tuttas, Jody (Kent) Richards, Jennifer Gilpin, two step-children, John (Annie) Kantz, Julie (Larry) Schmidt, six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Robert (Nellie) Gilpin, and one sister, Charlotte Eyestone.
Paul played football, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1952 from Eastern Illinois University.
He taught school and coached football for seven years, 1952-1955 at Tuscola, IL, and 1955-1959 at Pekin. He was a life insurance salesman and financial advisor with the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States (AXA) from 1959 through 2004. He was in the Equitable Hall of Fame and a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table.
Paul loved his wife, Kathy, very much as well as all his children and grandchildren. He was very active volunteering his time at the Rocking C Summer Camp and Stables in Kickapoo.
His two greatest hobbies were football and Appaloosa horses.
He was a member and usher at Northwoods Community Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday Nov. 10, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
