Patty J. Gross 80 of Peoria, IL died at 1:14pm Friday, January 8, 2021 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, from complications due to COVID-19. Patty was born October 21, 1940 in Danville, IL to Harry L. and Dorothy Amanda (Garms) Coffey. She married Dr. Henry Robert Gross on February 29, 1996.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael Coffey, and daughter-in-law Angel Harper (also due to complications with COVID-19). Surviving is her husband Henry, son Jack (Amber) Harper of Colorado Springs, CO – and daughters Amanda (Andrew) Roe of Washington, and Jennifer McConnell of Peoria, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Patty last worked as a Registered Nurse, retiring in 1998, to care for her mother following a stroke. She worked her way from a CNA, to an LPN, and then as an RN. She had been a nurse at Affiliated Urological Specialists for many years.
Patty became a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where for many years, she was in charge of the food pantry and donated countless hours helping those in need. Her expertise in cooking and amazing management skills came in handy for serving in the church’s Ladies of St. Martha’s Guild. She was chair of the guild for several years. She also served on the Altar Guild at church. In addition, she volunteered in the gift shop at OSF hospital and was a member of the Senior Saints.
Cremation rites have been accorded and private services will be held at a later date. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is handling arrangements.
Patty will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a devoted friend, and a strong and dynamic member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Jack, Amanda, and Jennifer add that Dr. Henry Gross and our mother have made a home and life for us, we know that we have become the strong men and women we are today from their love and devotion.
