He was born April 7, 1932 in the front bedroom of the family’s home on Farmington Road. He was the son of Phillip J and Bertha M Rechsteiner King. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Barrett on September 30, 1951.
Owen is survived by his wife of 65 years; his children, Peggy (Max) Heltzel of Peoria, Phillip King of Chillicothe, and Gregory King of Peoria; eight grandchildren, Collin (Patricia) Brewer, Cameron (Mandy) Brewer, and Clayton Brewer, Callie (McKinnon) Pangburn , Connor King, and Makenzie King, Jennifer (Dave) Hamilton, Joshua (Desirae) Smick; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Lohrman of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Donna Jones, and one daughter-in-law, Marcia.
Owen retired after 37 years of service from AT&T.
He was a member of Living Waters Lutheran Church in Peoria. Owen was a lifelong member of the choir. He was an Air Force Veteran.
Owen’s passions were his family and his church. His selfless devotion to his children and grandchildren was admired by all. He was a surrogate father and grandfather to many. Owen taught countless children to ride their bikes or catch a ball.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lutheran Hillside Village, OSF Hospice, Sister Angelica, Dr. Dean Gravlin, Dr. James Kenny, and Dr. James McGee.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday, April 7, 2017 at Living Waters Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 4-7:00 pm and one hour prior to services also at the church. Pastor Mark Schoenhals will officiate.
Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
