She graduated from Centenary College for Women at Hackettstown, New Jersey. After graduation, she was employed by Carson Pirie Scott and Company as an assistant buyer in the bridal and evening wear department.
Nancy married Thomas P. Sommer on September 2, 1950 in Evanston. They lived in Shreveport, Louisiana and Peoria, where they raised their two children, Thomas P. Jr. and Sally.
She was active for many years in the community serving on the founding board of Youth Farm League, serving as President of that organization and starting the Annual Carmel Corn Sale. She also served at the Methodist Hospital Service League where she directed the Christmas Workshop for many years. She served on the Crittenton Home board when they still had the home on Heading Avenue.
She was a member of the Peoria Board of Realtors, where she was a realtor for Traders Realty for 27 years. She was a multi-million dollar salesperson and loved being a realtor.
She loved her bridge groups and played every Monday and Tuesday with treasured friends for many years.
She was preceded in death by her mother; father; brother; husband; Tom; and both of her children, son, Tom Jr.; and daughter, Sally Sommer Haase; Tom’s wife, Mary; and son-in-law, David Haase.
She is survived by her two grandsons, Kai and Dan; three great-grandchildren, Clayton and twin girls, Ella and Sophia.
As per her request, she will be cremated and her ashes interred in The Garden at First Federated Church along with other family. A private graveside service will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
