Mike was born in Canton, IL to Dominic and Jane (Dilts) on January 9, 1947. He grew up in St. David, IL and graduated from Lewistown High School in 1965. On February 3, 1995, he married his soulmate, Claudia Roberts, in Decatur, IL. They built a strong foundation of faith, love, and service toward others. Mike remained faithfully by her side until her passing on July 7, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Jane (Dilts) Bima, and his grandson, Gavin Gutierrez.
He is survived by his five children: Kathie (Jeff) Phillips of Norwalk, IA; Kami (Nestor) Gutierrez of Downs, IL; Matt (Laura) Gibson of Elmhurst, IL; Nick Bima of Peoria,IL; and Chris (Martha Cowley) Gibson of Chicago,IL. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Lauren, Josh (Amanda), Nathan, and Andrew (Phillips); Josie and Sophia (Gutierrez); Anna and Elsie (Gibson). Also surviving is his sister, Janet (Marvin) McAdams of Lewistown, along with several nieces and nephews.
Mike studied Mathematics at Western Illinois University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1970, and then received a degree in Mechanical Engineering at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He began his career working for Proctor & Gamble until 1974 when he returned to Peoria, IL where he worked for Caterpillar, Inc. as a Project Manager and Engineer for 35 years. Mike later went on to study Management for 21st Century at Bradley University, which led him to become the owner and operator of Bima Enterprises, LLC.
Mike’s love and devotion was to his wife, children, grandchildren, and his spoiled pup, Grace. Together they spent most of their time visiting friends and family, attending their grandchildrens’ events, babysitting, and hosting family and friends at Treviso Bay in Naples, FL during winters. Mike was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, Bradley Braves, and enjoyed playing golf with his son, Nick, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at St. Vincent De Paul Church at 10:00. A luncheon for family and friends will follow in the St. Vincent De Paul Fellowship Hall.
