Maria Coates

She was born on May 9, 1956 in Benton Harbor, MI to Henry Talbert and Catherine Coates.

Maria is survived by her mother and four children, Tyrone Terrell Jr., Maria (Shumba) Doss, Deandre (Bobbie) Terrell, and Dorsey Doss; two special daughters, Jessica (Eltaron) Gainer, and Christina Rice; sixteen_ grandchildren, Corbin Terrell, Kiera Terrell, Kelsey Terrell, JaKayla Terrell, DeMetrius Terrell, Kiersten Terrell, Ja' Licia Gainer, Trazjhaia Gainer, Skylae Jablonski, Ayden Doss, Sumier Sutton, Nieko “Yago” Brower, Asiaha Sutton, Navarei Sutton, Emmanuel Brown, and Liam Sutton; great-grandchildren, Drelyn Terrell, Josef Viel, Jrue Terrell, Lakelyn Terrell, and Kiandre Terrell; nine siblings, Zelda (Kenny) Williams, Terrence L. Coates, Eric Talbert, Mark Cameron, Brenda Jackson, Jenell Jackson, Lance Jackson, Edward Jackson III and Robin Tapley.

She was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents, Idella Coates, Emanuel Coates and Helena Talbert; grandson, Marcus Terrell; sisters, Stephanie Cameron and Jennifer Lewis; and brothers, Georgie Cameron III, Gregory Talbert and Michael Pollard.

Maria worked for OSF St. Francis for over 18 years retiring from OSF St. Francis Corporate Offices in 2023. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Peoria and enjoyed traveling, visiting California and watching football. Maria enjoyed crafts of all type including crocheting, sewing, embroidery, glass blowing and making jewelry. She also enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 7, 2025 with visitation one hour prior to the service at St. Paul Baptist Church in Peoria. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
