Margaret was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on December 11, 1924 to Floyd and Laura (Lowe) Flynn. She married Clyde W. Meyers on April 7, 1946 in Bowne Center, Michigan. He died December 10, 2006.
Surviving are her son, David (Betty) Meyers of Peoria and her daughter, Diane (Christopher) Perry of Peoria; four grandchildren, Laura and Carrie Meyers, Amelia (Philip) Lindley, and Jonathan Perry; one great-granddaughter, Kori Lindley; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Geraldine Craig and Maxine Friedli; and one niece, Shelia Gilbert.
Margaret graduated from high school in Caledonia, Michigan and attended Davenport-McLaughlin Business College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She worked at Travelers Insurance in Peoria from 1946 to 1951. While a stay-at-home mom, Margaret was active as a school room mother, cub scout leader and girl scout leader. She returned to work at WABCO (Dresser) in 1971 as a secretary until she retired in February of 1987.
Margaret was a member of University United Methodist Church since 1952. She was a Sunday school teacher, active in United Methodist Women, and was leader of Rebecca Circle for many years. She was a volunteer and Assistant Manager of the corner Closet Clothing Consignment Shop at the Church until it closed in 2001. The volunteers continued to gather for lunch over the years. She looked forward to her fellowship time with the ladies.
Margaret lived at Lutheran Hillside Village in an independent apartment since October of 2002. She treasured her years at “The Village.” She served on the Hospitality and Activities Committee; participated in many activities and outings; enjoyed writing for Pen Souls; and enjoyed fellowship with the morning group, Coffee, Devotions and Laughter. For many years she enjoyed taking classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Bradley University.
Margaret’s hobbies included: sewing, needlework, scrapbooking, crafts, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, photography, and writing poems and short stories about experiences and happenings in her life. In earlier years she loved to travel and play piano. Margaret enjoyed nature and watching birds and wildlife. Margaret was artistic and creative. She utilized her leadership and organizational skills. She approached life with love of family, determination, persistence, a smile, a sense of humor and occasionally, stubbornness. Margaret lived a full and complete life. She lived her life with faith in Christ.
Her family would like to thank the medical and support staff at UnityPoint Health Methodist in ER, ICU, OR, on Crescent 7, the Palliative Care team, and the Hospice Care team for their outstanding, attentive, compassionate care given to Margaret during her final two weeks of life.
Services will be at 10:30am on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Waters of Life Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria with Rev. Paul Arnold and Rev. Paul Park officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services and also from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Hillside Village Foundation Benevolent Fund or University United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
