She was born March 9, 1947 in Adair County, Kentucky the daughter of Addison and Mary Snow Merritt. She married William Gammage on July 25, 1965 in Ashland, IL.
Linda is survived by her husband of fifty-three years; one son, Bryan (Jenny) Gammage of Oak Park, IL; two grandchildren, Aaron Gammage and Noah Gammage; and one nephew, Donald Merritt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ray Jr, Dick, Morris, and Jim Merritt.
Linda attended Woodland Baptist Church. And she was an avid birdwatcher, looking for birds wherever she traveled and especially in her own back yard.
Linda was a dedicated medical social worker, earning her degrees while working and raising her son Bryan. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Bradley University, Phi Kappa Phi in 1976. In 1987, she received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois. Much of her career was spent working with Red Cross and the Comprehensive Bleeding Disorder Center. In that time she helped countless families. After retirement, she continued to have a positive impact many people’s lives. In 2002, Linda was named Social Worker of the Year from The National Hemophilia foundation. With the Hemophilia Alliance, Linda helped create and launch a global social work conference, and 21 years later, in 2018, the conference was renamed in her honor - the Linda Gammage Social Worker Conference.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 pm January 2, 2019 also at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
