Born April 15, 1943 in Peoria to the Rev. Theodore and Ruth (Boerger) Weiss; he married Suzanna Rivera on September 15, 1968 in Chicago, IL.
Surviving are his wife, of 56 years, Suzanna Weiss of Peoria; children, David (Lee Anne) Weiss of New Port Richey, FL, Thomas Weiss of Peoria, Michelle (Clay) Southey of Peoria, Deborah Weiss of Peoria, and Timothy (Jennifer) Weiss of Elm Grove, WI; grandchildren, Ryan, Alex, Susanna, Christian, Peyton, Patrick, Paxtyn, Piper and Noah; brothers, David (Helga) Weiss and Joel (Darlene) Weiss; sisters, Barbara (Gail) Goodwin and Janet Malzahn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother-in-law, Paul Malzahn and niece, Julie Pallas.
John spent his career in retail sales, having worked for Holmes Shoes and Carson Pirie Scott, both in Peoria.
As the son and grandson of Lutheran pastors, faith was very important to John. He appreciated his quiet time to read the Bible and religious books. John had a great sense of humor and valued the many conversations he had with family about topics in which he was knowledgeable. John enjoyed family reunion vacations where he loved fishing and teaching his children to fish.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria and memorials are suggested to the church at redeemerlutheran.com/give.
A celebration of his life will be announced soon. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria.
