He was born on March 24, 1949 in Peoria to Walter and Harriett (Bassett) Palmer.
He married Marjorie Gibson Paulen on September 9, 1988 in Lewistown, IL. She survives.
John is also survived by his three sons, Joseph (Farrah) Palmer of Chillicothe, John G. (Michelle) Palmer Jr. of East Peoria and Matthew (Jamie) Palmer of Princeville; two step-sons, Bill (Erika) Paulen of Olympia, WA and Bret Paulen of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren; three siblings, Susan Palmer of East Peoria, Randy (Joanne) Palmer of Dunlap and Linda (Jim) Washburn of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was an ironworker for Local 112 for over 50 years. During those 50 years he built two businesses, Illinois Bridge and Iron and Blue Ridge Construction. John was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his friends on the golf course in both Pekin and Edinburg, TX. He also loved sports cars. His biggest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Private family services will be held.
