She was born June 23, 1946, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Harry and Stella (Borden) Collins. She married Norman C. Adler on June 19, 1971, in Charleston, South Carolina. He survives.
Also surviving are three children, Kathie Adler of Peoria Heights, Michael (and Jennifer) Adler of Washington and Brian Adler of Peoria; four grandchildren, Lauren Adler, Brendan Adler, Allison Adler and Ryan Adler; and one great-grandson, Jaelen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Aragona.
She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in nursing and had worked as a nurse for several years. Joan, her husband and their family lived in Charleston, South Carolina, San Pedro, California, San Diego, California, and North Chicago, while Norm served in the Navy.
After moving to Peoria in August 1977, Joan worked for Parc (now known as EP!C) for many years before retiring. She then worked for Right Track Child Care Center in East Peoria and later for Tenderheart Child Care in Washington. She last worked for the Center for Prevention of Abuse.
She had volunteered at Methodist Medical Center for many years.
She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, its Martha Group and the SPEC Board.
She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren in their various sports and activities.
Joan had a huge heart and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights. Monsignor Jason Gray will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to her church.
