Jimmie Chapman Aranda, 97, of Washington, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at her home. She was born on June 8, 1926 in Black Oak, Arkansas, a daughter of James Headrick and Ethel (McGowan) Headrick. Jimmie married William Chapman in 1947. She later married Andres Aranda in 1985 and he preceded her in death in 2015 in Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Christine McMahan; infant daughter, Karen; three sisters, Genoma Bergdorf, Vivian Headrick, and Julia Headrick; and son-in-law, Ed Maslar.
Jimmie is survived by her three children, William (Cynthia) Chapman of Elyria, Ohio, Jeanne Maslar of Bay Village, Ohio, and Lynn (Steve) Rivard of Rockford; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Eula Dobbins of Mesa, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Akron University, receiving her bachelor's in elementary education and also received her master's degree in special education from Bradley University.
Jimmie last worked as a special education administrator for Peoria School District 150, retiring in 1991. She was a special education teacher also for District 150 for many years. She was a strong advocate for children and teachers throughout her career.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Peoria. Jimmie was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
Jimmie had many talents. She played the piano and was a vocalist. She spoke fluent Spanish and advocated for many in the Spanish speaking community. Jimmie was a proficient seamstress and sewed for her friends and neighbors. Whatever she wanted to accomplish, she would find a book and learn how to do it. She was knowledgeable in so many areas that her friends nicknamed her the "Fount".
Jimmie's graveside service will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.
