Jean Corcoran Gilmore, 101, a Peoria, Illinois resident for more than 70 years, passed away on January 31, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona where she had resided since November, 2020. She passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family.
Jean was born on April 10, 1921 in Buffalo, New York, to Samuel James and Gladys Edna May Cooley. She married Timothy McCarthy Corcoran June 5, 1943 and they enjoyed 55 happy years together prior to his death in 1998. She later married Robert E. Gilmore on May 13, 2005 who passed away in September 2020. She is survived by one son, Tim Corcoran (Sharon) of Peoria, Arizona, and two daughters, Linda Corcoran Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona, and Nancy Corcoran of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Michele, Laura, Tim, Dan, Aaron, Emily, and Molly, and nine great-grandchildren.
Jean attended public schools in the Chicago area and graduated from Maine Township High School, Park Ridge, Illinois. She graduated from Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin in 1942, after which she worked in the bond department of the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago until the birth of her first child. After moving to Peoria in 1948 and raising her 3 children, she volunteered in many groups, including the Methodist Hospital Service League, the Salvation Army Auxiliary, Civic Federation, Lakeview Museum, Kappa Delta Sorority Alumnae, Panhellenic Society, and PEO. As a member of First Federated Church for over 50 years, she served on the board of deacons three times and on numerous other committees.
Memorial Service will be held at First Federated Church in Peoria on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 11am with an hour visitation prior to services. Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Inurnment of ashes will be in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin or to First Federated Church of Peoria.
