Janice L. Kiesgen

She was born May 4, 1935 in Kewanee to the late Hayden and Mabel (Parr) Lyle. She married Carl W. Kiesgen July 6, 1958 in Kewanee, he passed away November 29, 2007.

She is survived by her children, daughter Luanne (Scott) Noe; son, David (Angela) Kiesgen; and daughter, Maryellen Kiesgen. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Kewanee High School and Illinois Wesleyan University as a Music Major. She also had an amazing soprano voice in which she participated in many choirs and the Peoria Area Civic Chorale for many years.

Janice was a music teacher and band director for Concordia Lutheran School for many years. The Marching Cougars were established in 1971 by Janice as a way to bolster the school’s band program. Since its inception, the band has performed 10 times in Washington D.C. [the 1st grade school band to perform in the annual Cherry Blossom Parade] and has played for Presidents Ford, and Reagan.

They participated in many local parades each fall including the Pekin Marigold Festival, Canton Friendship Festival, Morton Pumpkin Festival, Kewanee Hog Festival, Peoria Veterans Day Parade, and the Peoria Santa Claus Parade. The band represented the City of Peoria and the State of Illinois at the 2015 National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C.

Janice taught music lessons for many years. She was loved by her students and many of them have continued to stay in touch over the years.

She enjoyed living in Arizona with Carl after retirement and played a lot of golf. She also loved being with her grandchildren, family and friends. Janice will be immensely missed by all who knew her.

The family would also like to thank OSF Saint Francis MICU staff and OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home for the amazing care that was given to Janice.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 11 a.m. with an additional visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Pastor Mark Nelson will officiate.

Memorials may be to the Concordia Lutheran School, St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or Trinity Lutheran Church.
