She was born February 12, 1932 in Peoria to George P. and Jennie I (Krause) Gauwitz. She married Roland E. Grebe April 20, 1952 in Peoria. He preceded her in death.
Surviving Janet is one daughter, Jane Grebe of Peoria, three sons: James (Sarah) Grebe of Peoria, John (Caroline) Grebe of Highland Park, Jeff (Christine) Grebe of East Peoria, eight grandchildren and one sister, Irene P. Hoeltje of Peoria.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Andy F. Gauwitz.
She was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was very active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) and the Adult Choir.
Janet traveled extensively with her husband and children and faithfully kept diaries of their trips. Janet loved singing, sewing, soap operas, onions and PURPLE! She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend who gave of herself expecting nothing in return. Janet steadfastly cared for her husband at home for over 8 years, due to a lengthy illness. Janet was a dedicated blood donor with the Red Cross for several decades. She had a strong faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and imparted that faith to family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Rosewood of Peoria for their care of Janet over the past 4 years.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 2020 W. Malone, Peoria, IL and will resume at Christ Lutheran Church on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 10:00 am until the funeral at 11:00 am. The Rev. Karl Eckhoff will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
