James was born July 28, 1929 in Naylor, MO, the son of Novie Chester and Nellie Irene Thompson Murrell. He married Alice Susan Davis in Clay County, AR on December 23, 1952. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2007 in Peoria. He later married Brandee Coon on August 3, 2013 in Metamora. She survives.
He is also survived by his three daughters, Rosemary (Tom) Sargent of Marquette, Heights, Ruth Damm , Brenda Murrell both of Washington; one step-daughter, Viola, one step-son, Jeremiah both of Foley, AL; four sisters, Norma Riley of Neelyville, MO, Geraldine (Don) Hover of Harviell, MO, Anna (Dub) Gregory of Poplar Bluff, MO, Mary (Carl) Wagener, Harviell, MO; two brothers, Arthur (Georgia) Murrell of O’Fallen, MO, and Chester (Kathy) Murrell of Buffalo, MO; three grandchildren, Christopher, James, and Cheryl; and four great-grandchildren.
James was also preceded in death by his parents, and one great-grandson, Benjamin.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for forty-one years, retiring in 1992. James served as an Elder for the East Peoria Church of Christ for nineteen years. He was very active in the church, having home bible studies and baptizing many people. He was always looking for someone to study the bible with and was always ready to help someone in need. James worked at the Illinois State Fair Church of Christ Mission. He will be truly missed.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at East Peoria Church of Christ. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2014 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Steve Breeden will officiate.
Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to East Peoria Church of Christ.
