He was born on January 15, 1933 in West Des Moines, Iowa to Clarence E. Fuller and Cora B. (Paden) Fuller. He is survived by his wife Rosella V. (Radke) Fuller, his son John Fuller and wife Becky (Heckman) Fuller, and grandchildren Jack and Henry Fuller, of Oak Park, Illinois, and by his daughter Lori (Fuller) Klabon, her husband Bill Klabon, and granddaughter Makenna Klabon. Jack is also survived by a niece and nephew, Maureen (Gavin) Ben, and Michael Fuller. Jack and Rosella were married June 10, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Van Meter, Iowa, and were married for 61 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Jane Marie Fuller.
Jack graduated from Iowa State University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture and studied in the graduate program at the University of Illinois. After graduation from Iowa State, Jack worked in landscape design and construction at Grand Teton National Park. Prior to that, he served in the Army from 1956 to 1959 where he worked on early guided missiles at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.
Jack worked for the Peoria Park District for 37 years from 1960 until his retirement in 1998. In his various roles at the park district, he was responsible for all park operations, maintenance, and was in charge of planning and land acquisition. Many notable projects reflect Jack's contributions at the Peoria Park District, including Kellogg Golf Course, Detweiller Golf Course and Marina, Meinen Field, Forest Park Nature Center, Central Park Pool and the Glen Oak Amphitheater. He also played an instrumental role in developing the Rock Island Trail, a 26 mile hiking and cycling trail from Alta to Toulon, Illinois.
Jack was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and previously served on the Concordia Lutheran School board, the Peoria City Beautiful Council, and was a past President of Peoria's downtown Kiwanis chapter. He was in the first graduating class of Peoria's Community Leadership School, and volunteered as a blue coat at Proctor Hospital.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
