Henry Horn, Jr., 95, of Peoria, formerly of Mossville, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal. He was born on June 13, 1929 in Delavan, a son of Henry P. Horn, and Iona (Condor) Jones. Henry married Barbara June Robinson on October 28, 1948 in Pekin. They met at the Hotel Pere Marquette. As soon as, he saw her there, he told others, “I’m going to marry that girl.” They remained married for 74 years. She preceded him in death on December 23, 2022 in Eureka.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Edward Horn.
Henry is survived by his three children, Edward Henry (Barb) Horn of Normal, Linda Ann (James) Lowrance of Eureka, and Michael Dean (Rachel) Horn of Peoria; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven nephews; four nieces; and 6 great-great grandchildren.
He served the country starting at the young age of 16, in the State Militia for two years, the U.S Air Force, and the United States Air National Guard. He retired from military service after proudly serving 29 years, 6 months. He also was a member of the American Legion for 60 years.
Henry started working at R.G. LeTourneau, as an inspector. The company assumed many names over the years (WABCO, American Standard, Dresser, Komatsu), and he retired as a Service Representative for Komatsu after 40 years, retiring in 1996. After retiring he drove buses for First Student for 3 years. He also delivered food for Meals on Wheels and prescription drugs to those who could not get out. He was a very caring and helping person.
He was a volunteer with the Chillicothe Fire Department for 23 years. Leaving at the rank of Captain. He was Medina Township Clerk for 6 years. He always worked tirelessly to support his family doing many other part-time jobs too. He was an excellent bowler. He bowled many 300 games. His favorite sports were bowling and golf.
Henry's graveside service will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Chillicothe City Cemetery with full military honors.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
