Harold Leroy Stear Sr., age 83, of Hanna City, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020, at 11:00 p.m. at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a lengthy illness. He was born on November 4, 1936, to parents John and Maude (Sleeth) Stear. He married Beverly Ann Richmond on April 20, 1957, in Hanna City. She survives. Also surviving are four children, Melody Wiseman of Elmwood, IL, Harold (Bud) Stear Jr. of Fort Worth, TX, Kelly Larkin of Hanna City, IL, and Gregory Stear (Mindy) of Washington, IL; six grandchildren, Aaron Sarff, Amber Logsdon, Alec (Blanca) Wiseman, Lexi Stear, and Jonathan and Kristopher Larkin; five great-grandchildren, Nathan and Adam Sarff, Asher Logsdon, Kylie and Kamilla Wiseman; sister, Elizabeth Powers, Elmwood, IL, and brothers, William (Shirley) Stear and Ronald (Velma) Stear of Hanna City, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and their wives, Jim and Evelyn Crim, Melvin Stear, John and Alberta Stear, Gene and Millie Stear, Frank and Ruth Stear; brother-in-law, Jerome Powers; son-in-law, Donald Larkin; and infant daughter, Beverly Stear.
Harold graduated from Manual High School in 1956. He retired from Caterpillar and served as a volunteer fireman on the Logan-Trivoli Fire Department. Harold enjoyed woodworking, bowling, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, working in his yard, and spending time with his family. Harold also was a die-hard Cub fan.
Harold succumbed to the results of a hospital acquired infection combined with an unmanaged extremely high temperature in October, 2008. After spending 2 years in various nursing homes; he was able to join his wife at home where she cared for him until his demise. Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2020, at Smithville Cemetery in Smthville with Reverend Doctor Thomas Heren officiating. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Chicago.
