Harold G. Hoffman, 88, of Peoria, IL passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 at Riverview Care Center in East Peoria, IL. He was born December 4, 1924 in Peoria, IL to Edwin G. and Luella M. (Fieselman) Hoffman. He married Dorothy DeGraff on March 23, 1947 in Peoria, IL. As a follower of Christ, Harold was a lifelong member of Forrest Hill United Methodist Church in Peoria, a Sunday school teacher, member of the Friday Men’s Work Group, and the Methodist Men’s Club. He was also a 50+ year member of Temple Lodge #46 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria, Mohammad Shrine of Peoria, American Legion Post 2, Peoria Historical Society, founding member of Lakeview Museum, and a volunteer and site supervisor for Habitat of Humanity. Harold’s hobbies included golfing, fishing, stained glass, and spending time with family and friends.
Harold served during WWII in the United States Army as a gun crewman sergeant and was awarded a Bronze Star. Later he operated his own business, E.G. Hoffman and Sons, where he worked as a building contractor for forty five years.
Harold is survived by his children: Edwin C. (Linda) Hoffman of Peoria, IL, Terry L. (Daniel) Pennell of Peoria, IL, Kenneth C. (Carmen) Hoffman of Hanna City, IL, and Lisa S. (Mike) Waight of Morton, IL, five grandchildren: Joy (Brad) Williamson, Christine (Jeff) Bulfer, Andrew (Rebecca) Hoffman, Sarah (Cory) Vance, and James (Sarah Rochford) Pennell, nine great grandchildren: Ava and Brady Bulfer, Hannah and Ethan Hoffman, Moriah Vance, Brandon, Abby, Carter, and Dotty Williamson, and his brother Frederick (Charlotte) Hoffman of Washington, IL.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife, granddaughter Kimberly Pennell, and sister Dorothy Wanner.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Forrest Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Curt Keller officiating. Harold’s family will receive friends from 9 am till the time of service at the church. Private burial of cremains will take place at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria at a later date.
