H. Ray Hannah Jr., 93, of East Peoria, IL, passed away, Saturday, September 12th at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, IL. Ray was born on August 5, 1922 in rural Chillicothe to the late H. Ray and Lula (Burroughs) Hannah Sr. He married Marian Virginia Winkler on June 5, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria, IL. Marian survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Angela (Mark) Raddatz of Lancaster, OH, and Louisa (David) Pummill of East Peoria, IL, twelve grandchildren, Jeremiah (Sarah) Raddatz, Thomas Raddatz, Timothy Raddatz, Simeon (Lauren) Raddatz, Stephan Raddatz, Noah Raddatz, Candace Pummill, Meaghan Pummill, Maria Pummill, Austin Pummill, Ashley Pummill, and Marriah Pummill and a great-grandchild, Wyatt Raddatz. Also surviving are his sisters, Frances Adolphson and Cora (Max) Atteberry, and brothers, Glen Hannah and Keith (Marilyn) Hannah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard Hannah and Robert Hannah, sister, Marlyn Millard, brothers-in-law, Rudolph Adolphson and Fritz Millard, and sisters-in-law, Joan Hannah, Kitty Hannah, and Margaret Hannah.
After graduating fourth in his class from Chillicothe Township High School in 1940, Ray served his country as a Marine in World War II. He served as a Hydraulic Technician and was promoted to the rank of Technical Sergeant in the Marine Air Corps. In 1950, he graduated from Bradley University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education. In 1951, he was awarded his Master’s Degree in Social Studies from Bradley University. Ray served as an instructor for Pekin District 108 at Washington Junior High School for 30 years. He also farmed the Winkler Grain Farms in Tazewell and Woodford counties. Over the years, as an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Peoria, IL, Ray served as an usher and attended Bible studies. Ray also chaired the school board at Concordia Lutheran School, Peoria, IL for twelve years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 19, at 11 A.M., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Peoria, IL with visitation starting at 9:30 A.M. The Rev. Mark Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
