He was born June 26, 1919 in Peoria, a son of Joseph F. and Nellie B. Holmes Thornton.
Surviving are one niece, Linda (Harry) Reneau of Groveland; nephews, David (Carol) Smith of Kernersville, NC, Steve (Monica) Smith of Lewistown, Chris Smith of Atlanta, GA, Roger Harris of Peoria, Rollie, Randy, Rob, and Rod Ritchie of CA; and several great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert E. Thornton, sisters, Florence (Ray) Harris, Emma (Maynard) Ritchie, and Shirley Smith.
Floyd worked at Peoria Paper House, Goodyear District Office, and retired from Wilson Tire Company in 1985.
Floyd was a gentle sweet man who valued his family and loved crosswords and cryptoquotes. He never forgot a name or face. He will be missed by all.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at Mt. Hawley Cemetery in Dunlap. Cremation rites are accorded. Chaplin Timothy Mitchell will officiate. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
