Ella "JoAnn" Walton, 87, of Morton, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Aperion Care Morton Villa. She was born on November 25, 1935 in Peoria, a daughter of Louis and Bernadine (Moody) Rogan. JoAnn married John Walton on March 28, 1953 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2019 in Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Barbara Pate and Marlene Ross; one granddaughter Angela Jones; and son in law Charles Warr Sr.
JoAnn is survived by her four children, Carla Warr of Peoria, Dawn (Kenneth) Hollis of Springfield, Skott (Lori) Walton of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Corey Walton of Minneapolis, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tina Rogan and Donna Nelson; and three brothers, Donald Rogan, Dean Rogan, and David Kingcade.
JoAnn last worked at the Peoria Fire Department as a receptionist for over 20 years.
JoAnn often looked for ways to help those who she felt was less fortunate than herself. She prepared dishes and delivered them to family members and friends. She loved sitting with family members who were homebound providing hours of companionship. She also assisted with feeding families at the church after the death of a loved one.
JoAnn enjoyed the outdoors. She would spend many lunch breaks walking in the park adoring nature. She was a prize-winning gardener.
JoAnn was a beautiful, intelligent, and classy woman who carried herself with dignity. Her children saw her as the epitome of a virtuous woman. JoAnn consistently taught through her wise words and upright lifestyle. She received Christ as a child. She often spoke of how the nuns would come into the Warner Homes during her childhood and help with the medical care of the residents. She joined the Catholic church and was a faithful member earlier in her life. She eventually became a member of the Star of Hope Full Gospel Church where she was a faithful member for over 30 years. She loved her pastor, Bishop Joseph Johnson, and her entire church family. She loved her personal bible study but eagerly awaited to attend the women’s Sunday School Class. If she had an opinion, she voiced it with strong conviction!
JoAnn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her family adored and loved her. She will be greatly missed but forever in the deepest of our hearts.
