He was born February 20, 1934 in Collinsville, Alabama to Eddie Marvin Atchley and Clara (Ledbetter) Atchley.
He was later fostered by W.O. and Audrey Talton.
He married Betty L. Daugherty on February 24, 1973. She Survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Rebecca L. (Jerry) McDaniels of N. Fort Myers, Florida; two sons, Christopher C. (Gail) Atchley of Bentonville, Arkansas, and John E. (Mardi) Atchley of Chicago; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one brother, Charles Atchley of Gadsden, Alabama, and one foster sister Patsy Smith of Boaz, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother, foster mother and father, step-brother Donald Atchley, sister Ella Mae Martin, foster brother E. L. Talton, foster sister Dorothy Smith, foster sister Elizabeth Hill, daughter Jennifer Vance Atchley, granddaughter Trisha Lynn Vance, and great-grandson Derek Michael Look.
Ed was owner/operator of two Mobil Oil service stations in the Peoria area for 20 years and operated a Mobil bulk plant for several years. He worked at Stock Yard Farm Supply, Lacy’s Disposal, and Caterpillar. Ed worked at the Peoria County Sheriff’s office for twelve years before retiring in 1997. He worked for Green Chevrolet, Green Ford and Dollar Car Rental for 17 years.
Ed was a member of Joseph Robbins Lodge No. 930 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria and the Mohammed Shrine. He served as Chief of Security at the Scottish Rite. Ed was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville. He was a very proud member of the Peoria County Sheriff’s Posse for 24 years, serving as Captain for 17 years. Ed was a member of the Illinois Police Association.
A visitation will be held 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, with Masonic rites and a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, 2021 N. University Street, Peoria, IL with Pastor Kara Wiechmann officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital.
