He was born to Lloyd A. and Evelyn R. (Larimore) Peterson on September 15, 1954 in Peoria. He married Theresa “Terri” Terrell on January 21, 1977 in Peoria.
Douglas is survived by his wife Terri; six children, Mary Peterson, Lucas (Nichola) Peterson, Sarah Peterson, Elizabeth (Richard) Maddox, Douglas (Jessica) Peterson, Jr, and Erin (Bryan) Klokkenga; grandchildren, Bryson, Kaitlyn, Austin, Laila, Cameron, Logan, Kaleb, Adelyn, Lillyn, Kaden, Sara Beth, Isaiah, and Charlotte; 11 siblings; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lisa Sayarinh; and two grandsons.
Douglas worked his way from the bottom to the top, as Assistant Manager and then District Manager of Hardee’s, finally becoming a Franchise Consultant. He owned and operated a Sonic Franchise before retiring in February of 2020.
Douglas volunteered with the Dream Center Peoria and was involved with the Coffee Project and Veggie City Urban Garden, and the Riverside Peoria Metro Kids program. He was also involved with Backpack Peoria, which combined the efforts of Dream Center Peoria and Riverside Community Church. He was a Bartonville Volunteer Firefighter and had a passion for powerlifting. He was the World Champion of the Drug Free Powerlifting Federation in Autun, France where he represented team USA. Douglas’ family meant everything to him and they were his greatest achievement. He sacrificed his wellbeing for others and devoted his life to taking care of everyone he came into contact with.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Riverside Community Church. Pastor John King will officiate. Visitation will be held at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Burial will be at Woodrow Cemetery in Pekin.
