He was born May 2, 1932 in Peoria, IL, the son of Gertrude Zimmerman McGurk and Arthur P. McGurk.
Don is survived by his sister Betty Campbell, his wife Jacqueline LaRowe McGurk; 4 daughters, Linda McGurk of St. Charles, MO, Mary-Diane McGurk of Rock Hill, MO, Diane Guthrie of Erie, PA and Jean McGurk O’Brien of Edwardsville, IL; 4 sons-in-law; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sisters June Hardy and Florence Dunkin.
Don worked at TP&W Railroad for 30 years, and was a 16-year volunteer with OSF Saint Francis Hospital, accumulating 6000 hours there. He was an avid reader with over 3000 books in his library- mainly cosmology and history. Don was a 45-year woodworker, making the most beautiful sawdust ever seen.
A celebration of Don’s life will be scheduled in the Spring.
