He was born June 16, 1934 in Kansas City, KS a son of David Elmer and Martha Lagow Woodson. He married LaRita Huber on July 23, 1953 in Kansas City, MO. She survives.
Also surviving are five children, Carol Krus, David E. (Elsie Hart) Woodson, Terry (Georgia) Woodson all of Peoria, Frank (Saira) Woodson of Conifer, CO, and Connie (Ray) Doran of Peoria; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ben (Irene) Woodson of Gladstone, MO; and one sister, Helen (Gerald) Noyes of Amarillo, TX.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, William and Edward, one grandson, Josh Woodson, and one son-in-law, Wayne Krus.
David retired in 1999 as the General Manager of Pleasant Valley Public Water District after 30 years of service.
He was recognized by the Governor for his leadership in establishing Illinois first maximum set back zone and in conducting one of the first groundwater protection assessments to benefit Pleasant Valley Water District.
He was a member of Bounders of America, former President of the Illinois Rural Water Association, and was a volunteer firefighter for Limestone Township for five years.
He was a member of First Norwood Mennonite Church, which he helped build in 1961.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Pastor Scott Frerichs will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
