David L. Kammerer, 89, of Peoria, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 at his home. He was born on December 12, 1934 in El Paso, IL, a son of Ezra Martin Kammerer and Gladys Mary (Schwiderski) Kammerer. David married Frances C. "Penny" Gillette on April 29, 1961 in Aurora, IL. She survives.
He is also survived by his two daughters, Kathleen (Dan) Pozos, Jill (Dale) Robertson, and one son, Jerry (Claudia) Kammerer; one sister, Kathy (Zeman) Pio; one brother, James Zeman; four grandsons, Jason (Kristy) Stevenor, David (Jessica) Stevenor, Dale (Bre) Robertson, Jr., and Ryan Robertson; seven great-grandchildren, Jackson Stevenor, Maxwell Stevenor, Henry Stevenor, Finnick Stevenor and Matthew Stevenor, Elaina Robertson, and Alice Robertson; and one niece, Peni Long.
David was preceded in death by his parents; Ezra Martin Kammerer, Gladys (Kammerer) Zeman; step-father, Richard Zeman; one sister, Sheri Reader; brothers, John (Dot) Schaefer and Bill (Cathy) Schaefer; one sister-in-law, Peggy (Nelson) Long, and one brother-in-law, Jack (Kathy) Pio.
He served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1974 attaining the rank of E-8 as an Electrician’s Mate. He served on board several submarines and several shore duty stations including his last duty station, Great Lakes Naval Recruit Training Command.
David last worked as a maintenance supervisor for the United States Postal Service in Peoria for 24 years, retiring in 1998.
He was an active member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Peoria. David loved working around the church, woodworking, his family and other veterans. His favorite thing was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
David's funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Peoria. Full military rites will follow service. Rev. James H. Knight, Jr. will officiate. His visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am also on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
