Born July 19, 1938, in Peoria to Bernard and Ann (Venyak) Hargrove, he married Jackie Crociani on April 15, 1962, at the Second Baptist Church in Peoria.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Terry (Teressa) Hargrove and Tony Hargrove. He was preceded in death by his parents, and very close friend, John Melton.
David attended Limestone High School, and when asked about school, he could often be heard quoting their motto: “Rough as nails, tough as bricks, we’re the class of ’56.”
He began his work career in high school as an employee of Hunt’s on Farmington Road. He graduated from there to mechanic at Whitey’s Phillips 66 Service Station in Bellevue from 1956 to 1961. David was also a Culligan Man from 1965 to 1976. He was a wireman at Enercon Engineering from 1976 to 2000, where he retired.
He was in the Army from 1961 to 1963, and continued in the Reserves until 1965.
He loved cars: radio-controlled, classic, muscle and otherwise. During his lifetime, he bought, sold, repaired or restored nearly 100 cars and appreciated each one in its own way. He also loved dogs and was a great father, a loyal friend and was deeply loved and will be missed by all of his family. David was focused on always providing for his family, and he succeeded admirably.
His most precious gift was his love for his wife, Jackie, throughout their years of marriage. They would have been married 50 years in April. He also never turned down someone in need and his home was always open.
The family is very appreciative of the concern and love demonstrated by all of the caregivers that helped David and his family during this time.
David has chosen to donate his body to science. Services celebrating his life will be 6:00 p.m.Thursday, March 15,2012 at the Davison-Fulton Woosley-Wilton in Peoria, with Dean Kennedy officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior.
Memorials may be made to TAPS Animal Adoption Shelter, the Zambia Medical Mission (www.zambiamission.org) or to a charity of the donor's choice. The family welcomes you to share your memories and condolences on his memorial website at www.woolsey-wilton.com.
