Cheryl Lea Stejskal, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at OSF in Peoria, Illinois
Cheryl was born on November 21, 1948, in Peoria, a daughter of Harold and Laura Swords. Cheryl married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Stejskal on February 10, 1968, in Peoria. Bob passed away on September 17, 2021. Bob and Cheryl have three children.
Cheryl is survived by their three children, Robert Scott (Lorey) Stejskal of Chillicothe, Jeffrey David (Kimberly) Stejskal of Peoria, and Janelle Lea Stejskal of Cocoa Beach, FL; and four grandchildren, Taylor (Austin) June, Dylan and Katelyn Stejskal, all of Peoria, and Braedan Wyatt of Cocoa Beach, FL; and one great-grandson, Maddux June.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Joan Lhotka; brother-in-law, Bill Lhotka; and her father-in-law, Gustav Stejskal, and her mother-in-law, Elsie Stejskal.
Cheryl was a talented seamstress, she loved to sew, embroider, knit, crochet, quilt, and applique. In 1987, Cheryl co-founded a local business, CEME Creations, where she would design and machine sew applique onto sweatshirts, tote bags, duffle bags, and aprons. Prior to her business, Cheryl worked at Carter Paper & Packaging Inc. Cheryl went to Bradley University and studied bookkeeping. She used her gift for bookkeeping for family, church, and business.
Cheryl attended Fellowship Bible Church in Peoria. She was a former member of the Hanna City Presbyterian Church and Cross Point Church in East Peoria. She was a devoted Christian, and her faith guided her and gave her great strength.
Cheryl loved spending time with her family and traveling with her husband. She enjoyed many hobbies: shopping, fashion home décor, and especially sewing. She also enjoyed the outdoors by gardening, swimming in their pool, and going to the beach. Cheryl absolutely loved spending time with her family, her gift of hospitality was enjoyed by many during the holidays hosted in her and Bob’s home. Cheryl enjoyed cooking and baking, and her meals and desserts were greatly enjoyed by her family and friends. She loved being a grandmother and doting on her grandchildren and great-grandson. If anyone needed anything, she would drop everything to help. She was a loyal friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Cheryl’s Visitation will be on Saturday, November 16th at 11:00 AM located at Richwoods Christian Church (8115 Knoxville Ave.) in Peoria. There will be a Celebration of Life memorial service at 12:00 PM.
Inurnment will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CurePSP (psp.org) or the Peoria Rescue Mission.
