Charles D. “Chuck” Seeber, 87, of Peoria, Illlinois, passed away Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Lutheran Hillside Village. He was born April 16, 1929 in Atchison, KS to the late William and Charlotte (Thaden) Seeber. He grew up in St. Joseph, Mo., where he was elected Student Council President and Senior Class President in high school. He attended St. Joseph Jr. College and Kansas University, graduating as an Architectural Engineer in January 1952. He then served as an officer in the United States Air Force.
On February 3, 1952 he was united in marriage to Marjorie C. Liston, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, MO. They were blessed with two daughters, Kathy Locher and Cynthia Wilson. Following Marjorie’s death on March 3, 2005, he then married Miriam Hughbanks on August 3, 2007. She survives.
Charles worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 37 ½ years in facilities management at the East Peoria plant, General Offices, and Mapleton plant. He retired in January 1991 as the Facilities Engineering Manager of the Mapleton plant.
Charles was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria and served in various capacities. He was chairman of the congregation, trustees, and elders throughout the years. He directed the first choir, sang in the Festival Choir, assisted in the Care Ministry Program, assisted in financial matters, and served as liturgist and as usher for church services. He was instrumental in the opening of Concordia Lutheran School in 1959 and served on their first Board of Education as well as the Concordia Lutheran School Foundation Board. He conducted worship services for the residents of Rosewood Care Center and did maintenance and pond work at Lutheran Hillside Village.
Survivors include daughter, Kathy (Larry) Locher and daughter Cynthia Wilson, both of Peoria; two grandchildren, Justin (Jeannine Tondre-Wilson) Wilson and Alicia (Daniel La Spata) Locher; sister-in-law, Eunice Seeber; step-daughter, Kathy (Aaron) Buchko, step-son, Rick (Becky) Hughbanks, and two step-grandchildren, Alex and Andrej Buchko. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie; sister, Barbara Huelse; brother, Col. William Seeber; and brother-in-law, Rev.Robert Huelse.
Funeral services will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016. The Pastor Ted Benson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home and one hour before the funeral service at the church on Saturday. His body will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria, where it will await the glorious resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
