He was born October 30, 1938 in Peoria to Charles and Helen (Pointer) Chapman. He married Marsha Lamie April 20, 1972 in Peoria, she preceded him in death on September 14, 2014.
Charles was also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his children, Denise (Mike) Patton of Peoria, Greg (Ebony) Chapman of Peoria, Mark (Michele) Chapman of Avondale, Arizona, Marc (Heather) Chapman of Indiana, David P. Chapman of Peoria and Molly (Steven) Chapman-Aiken of Peoria; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; father-in-law, Emery L. Sutter of Peoria and his furbaby, Chrissy.
From his early years, Charles displayed remarkable athletic ability, setting records in high school basketball and track and field at East Peoria High School, some of which he still holds.
Beyond the sports arena, Charles had a deep love for the outdoors. He found solace and joy in fishing, spending taking any opportunity to fish from the banks with his friends and family. His annual summer fish fry became a cherished tradition among family and friends.
Charles was not only a master of the outdoors but also a skilled craftsman. He poured his heart and soul into remodeling projects.
Charles was a gifted singer, dancer, and artist.
A die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers, Charles's loyalty knew no bounds. He cheered on his team with unwavering enthusiasm.
In addition to his athletic pursuits and hobbies, Charles had a passion for WWE wrestling. He marveled at the athleticism and showmanship of the wrestlers, finding joy in each thrilling match.
Above all else, Charles was a devoted family man. He took immense pride in his family's achievements and cherished every moment spent together. Whether competing in a friendly game of cornhole or sharing stories around the dinner table, his love and support were unwavering.
Charles will be remembered for his humility, his great sense of humor, and he had a passion for working with his hands. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
Funeral service will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, Peoria with visitation one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Pastor Barbara Nelson will officiate. Burial to follow at Parkview Cemetery, Peoria.
