Carol Marie Altorfer

She was born on November 8, 1939 in Peoria to the late Joseph P. and Vera M. (Herget) Platte. She married Gerald Scott Bowers in 1957 and he preceded her in death in 1969. She then married Thomas Altorfer on November 23, 1972. He survives.

Carol is also survived by her children, Scott Bowers of Peoria, Barry (Kim) Bowers of Pekin, Greg (Victoria) Altorfer of Mossville, Scott (Linda) Altorfer of Minnesota and Tami (Dan) Davis of Creve Coeur; son in law, Dale Johnson; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and cousins including, Fern (Ron) Hertz, Melvern (Kate) Allen and Merle (Barb) Allen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Gerald Scott Bowers; and daughter, Tina Johnson.

Carol graduated from Limestone High School and ISU with a bachelor’s degree in Education. She retired from Peoria District 150 after 27 years. She taught primarily at Harrison, Trewyn and Kingman schools and she held her students close in heart.

Carol enjoyed teaching water aerobics at The Clubs River City. She was an avid Bradley University Basketball fan and was a season ticket holder. Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved to be active and had a zest for life that inspired all those who knew her.

Carol was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church and attended Temple Builders Sunday School and Community Bible study at Grace Presbyterian Church. Her faith was the bedrock of her life, and she was a testament in her words, deeds and in her life.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 on Friday June 30, 2023, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday July 1, 2023 at Bethany Baptist Church. Pastor Ritch Boerckel will officiate. Additional visitation will be held an hour prior to services at the church.

Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery.
