Bernice V. Stevens, age 98, of Hanna City, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Monday April 11, 2016 at 3:15 a.m. at Kountry View Retirement Home in Hanna City. She was born April 3, 1918 in rural Glasford to Edward and Mary (Fisher) Kroepel. She married John W. Stevens on Nov. 10, 1939 in Hanna City. He passed away March 10, 1999 in Hanna City. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lawrence Kroepel. Survivors include four children: John “Jack” (Marilyn) Stevens of Trivoli, Kay (Jack) Down of Cambridge, Bob (Vicki) Stevens of Tiskilwa, Chuck (Carolyn) Stevens of Yates City, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two sisters: Eleanor Rosenbohm of Peoria, Irma Uphoff of Glasford, and many nieces and nephews. Bernice was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria. Bernice was very active in Hanna City and Peoria County. Her memberships included South Side Mission Auxiliary, Peoria County Republican Women, Peoria County Homemakers Extension, Peoria County Farm Bureau, and the Journal Star Women’s Advisory Board. She was a co-founder of the Rural Peoria County Council on Ageing, a 4H leader, an Election Judge, and was the JC Penny 1966 Volunteer of the Year. Visitation will be Wednesday April 13, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Funeral services will be Thursday April 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Church. Burial will be in North Limestone Presbyterian Church Cemetery of Hanna City. Memorials may be made to the Unlimited Grace Radio Ministries through Grace Presbyterian Church.
