She was born Feb. 11, 1942 in Chicago to Merlin and Frances (Porter) Jensen. She married Thomas Lawless on Aug. 8, 1964 in Peoria. He survives along with two sons: Steven (Catherine) Lawless of Peoria, David (Susan) Lawless of Chicago, one daughter, Debbie (John) Koller of Mahomet, IL, one brother, Alan (Robyn) Jensen of Mequon, WI, Amy Lawless of Chicago, and many nieces and nephews.
The treasures of her life were her nine grandchildren: Jensen, Johnny, Mickey, Tommy, and Stephanie Lawless, Jack, Luke, and Ryan Koller, and Hannah Fisher Lawless. Affectionately known as “Gaga”, she always made time for her family and grandkids, coming up with fun adventures, outings, and many family trips.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Jeffrey Lawless, one sister, Carolyn Unger, and two nephews, Mike Eastman and Charlie Stoebner.
She attended High School in Rock Island and then graduated from Methodist School of Nursing in 1963. She worked as a nurse at Methodist Pediatrics and later at the American Red Cross.
She was a tireless volunteer, always helping and giving her time. Her one true passion was working with the Methodist Service League for the past 27 years. She has served the organization in many capacities, including buyer, marketing director, and most recently President.
Tom and Barb have been members of Holy Family Catholic Church for 50 years. Holy Family held a special place in her heart, and she was always ready to give of herself to help the school and the church.
She was always busy and having fun, whether it was playing bridge, or meeting for a discussion with Sister Rachel’s group. Her house was always the main gathering point for holidays. Everyone will remember Barb for her big smile and even bigger heart.
