Barbara Jean Benedetto

Barbara Jean Benedetto, age 86, of East Peoria, Illinois passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at her residence. Barbara was born March 30, 1936 in Peoria to Lloyd and Juanita (Lilly) Gillingham. She married George Benedetto on July 28, 1956. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2006.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Rick) Moreland; granddaughter, Sarah (Aaron) Hasty; three great-grandchildren, Aaden, Owen, and Lillian Hasty; and one brother, William (Judy) Gillingham of Broken Arrow, OK. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard Benedetto; and one grandson, Scott Moreland.

Barbara liked to travel and enjoyed sewing, reading, and bird watching. Every year she would take her family on a vacation. She loved spending time with her "Greats" as she would call her great-grandchildren. She was a member of First Federated Church and enjoyed volunteering in the office when she was still able.

The family would like to give a special thanks to OSF Hospice, Shirette's In Home Care, and The Villas of Holly Brook in East Peoria for their support, kindness, and compassion.

A funeral service for Barbara will occur on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 2 PM with visitation an hour prior at First Federated Church, 3601 N. Sheridan Road in Peoria. Inurnment will take place at Springdale Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the church, Alzheimer's research, or the donor's choice.
