He was born April 22, 1943 in Chicago to Bennett R. and Phyllis C. (Anderson) Hagen. He married Rebecca S. Mettam on June 12, 1965 in Peoria. She survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Phyllis Hagen of Chicago; two daughters, Gretchen (John) Petrakis and Wendy (Dennis) Thomasson both of Peoria; and his grandchildren, Robert, Michael, William, Megan, and David. Also surviving is one sister, Charlene (Donald) Breede of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his father.
Allen was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Medical Corps. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 45 years and currently was working in the Global Tax and Trade Department as the U.S. Domestic Tax Manager.
He served on the Board of Trustees of the Taxpayers Federation of Illinois and also the Executive Committee of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce Tax Institute. He was a member of the Tax Executive Institute. He also served the city of Peoria on the Zoning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Allen was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria where he served in many different ministries of the church. He was a member of the Congregational Council many times, having served both as president and treasurer. He also served as a communion assistant, was Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the church choir, and led the Sunday school worship time.
His funeral service will be Friday, December 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church with the Reverend Stephen Barnes officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday, both at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
