She was born May 16, 1920, in Jerseyville, Illinois, the daughter of late Dora (Pierce) and Milton Davis. She was the last surviving of 7 siblings. On May 4, 1940, she married Anthony Perino.
Although born in southern Illinois, “Memaw” grew up on a farm outside Kickapoo, IL where she played on a semi-professional women’s baseball team. She worked many factory jobs around the Peoria-area: Hiram-Walker Distillery, Bemis, Fannie-May, and retired in 1985 from International Paper. She was a member of the Teamsters Union, the Women of the Moose, St. Mark Women’s Guild, and the St. Jude Women’s Guild. She enjoyed playing Bingo and taking bus trips with her friends. Memaw loved to travel and saw the world with family and friends. But most of all, she loved cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Frank (Linda) Perino (Mesa, AZ); granddaughter, Jennifer Perino (Peoria, IL), grandson, Frank (Julie) Perino II (Germantown Hills, IL); great-grandsons, Nicholas and Michael Perino (Germantown Hills, IL); and other family Joyce Perino (Peoria, IL) and Heidi Josefik (Peoria, IL).
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony in 1969 and her brothers and sisters: Agnes Woods, Jim Davis, Ivy Hill, Fred Davis, Willen Davis, Iona Burbidge, Vernon Woods, and Everet Woods.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday February 7, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria, Illinois. A visitation will be held one hour before the service. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Peoria, IL.
