Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 13 at Davison – Fulton – Woolsey – Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Herath officiating. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Abigail was born on Nov. 10 1922 in rural Garnavillo, Iowa, to Robert and Selma (Anderson) Demo, the middle of five children. She graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1940 and from the University of Iowa in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in Education.
Abigail was married to Albert Austin Gore on Sept. 6, 1959 in Waukon Iowa. One child was born to this union, a son, Steven Lee Gore. Albert passed away on January 17, 1997.
Abigail began her career in education teaching middle school in the State of Iowa during WWII. She later worked in Administration at Iowa State University starting in 1952 up until she left to earn her degree in education at the University of Iowa. Upon graduation, Abigail taught school in several locations including the University of Colorado, Boulder, Iowa, Minnesota, Washington D.C. and eventually completing her career in Illinois as a substitute teacher for District 150 in Peoria IL and the Dunlap School District 323 in Dunlap, IL.
She was a member of Mossville Methodist Church in Mossville IL where she and her husband assisted with the church’s financials and volunteered their time at fundraisers, church events and bible school.
In her spare time Abigail enjoyed her time in several hobbies such as her Bridge Clubs around Peoria and Bloomington, she was an exceptional bowler in a league for several years collecting a large sum of awards and trophies, she was an active volleyball player with her husband in an intramural team held at the Dunlap School District. She was a Den mother for several years for the local Cub Scouts of America Pack 59. She loved to travel in the U.S. and abroad. She was well up to date in the political world and very strongly opinionated. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and three grandsons. She especially enjoyed watching Cubs baseball with her grandson Scott, where they cheered on their favorite baseball team and favorite player #44, Anthony Rizzo. She also enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes Football team with her son Steve. She brought joy, wisdom and humor to all. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
Survivors include her son, Steven Gore, Dunlap; three grandsons, Chase Gore, Mitchell Gore and Scott Gore, Brimfield; one brother, Owen (Mary) Demo, Belmont WI; several nieces and nephews.
Abigail was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and three sisters, Virgil (DH) Fritz, Helen (Larry) Davis, Elaine (Dr. Paul) Moser.
