1931 – 2014
Wilma “Jo” Hamby Allen, 83, passed peacefully to her eternal home on August 10th, surrounded by her loving family. She was welcomed at the gates of heaven by her husband, George, of almost 64 years. Jo was born on March 23, 1931 in Topeka, Kansas and was the oldest of two children born to Vernon and Wanda Hamby. She was an active member of Westwood Christian Church and retired from Gayfers’ Department Store. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband, George and brother, Vincent Hamby. She leaves behind her three children and their spouses, Claudia & Roger Silverthorne of Pensacola, Randel & Connie Allen of Randolph, NJ and David & Angie Allen of Lexington, KY. She was the loving grandmother of Tracie (Ken) Hardin, Jennifer (Wes) Greeson, Alison (Patrick) Keen, Erica, Courtney and Lindsay Allen and Hiatt and Griffin Allen; and great grandmother of Emily, Anna, Jacob, Ashlyn and Grace.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Pastor Rick Malugani officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff of Homestead Village, Building I, for the love and care that they showed Jo over the past five years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westwood Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
