He was an MP in the Army during the Korean War and was dedicated to serving others on mission trips to Ecuador and Costa Rica. He worked at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton, AL for most of his life. He was Director of Radiology and was always dedicated to helping the sick. He loved to work in his wood workshop where he made wood cabinets and tables. He was so passionate about helping other that he did lots of work at the church when there was a need for remodeling or repairs. He also built wheelchair ramps for the Woodbine United Methodist Church program that help the needy.
He was married to Nancy Gleaton May on September 02, 1989 and was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Pensacola. He was a member of the Pensacola Jazz Society and loved music.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paige Elaine May of Brewton, AL, his niece Delisa Lee Watts of Long Beach, MS, and his parents Shirley D. May and Katie Lee Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy G. May; sister, Helen Louise Watts and brother-in-law Herman L. Watts of Long Beach, MS; son, William Thomas May, Jr. and daughter-in-law Debbie May of Grand Bay, AL; daughter, Dana Lynette Franco of Sugar Land, TX; daughter, Lauren L. May of Seattle, WA; and grandchildren Tyler May and wife Carolyn of Grand Bay, AL, Chris May and wife Amanda of Wetumpka, AL, Ryan Franco and wife Alex of Sugarland, TX, Alana Franco of Sugarland, TX and Eric Franco of Sugarland, TX; nephew, Thomas Watts of Long Beach, MS; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Rev. Larry Anderson and Rev. Don Abrams officiating. Entombment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
