1931-2016
William Ross Lewis, Jr., 84, of Pensacola, FL passed away on May 16, 2016.
He was born on October 15, 1931 in Pensacola, FL to the late William Ross, Sr. and Lillian Johnson Lewis. He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1949 and joined the U. S. Navy in 1950. He served during the Korean War from 1951-1952 in Japan as an aircraft mechanic. While stationed at Whidbey Island, WA, in 1953-1954, he met the love of his life, Doris A. Byers of Bellingham, WA. On November 11, 1955 they married in Pensacola, FL. He retired from Pensacola Naval Air Station after 35 years as a Quality Assurance Inspector at the Naval Air Rework Facility.
He enjoyed sailing and woodworking. He spent 5 years building the interior of their 31’ Southern Cross sailboat. They spent many peaceful hours sailing the waters along the Gulf Coast. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Anna Nadine Warren and her husband Rupert Lee Warren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris B. Lewis; his son, Randy (Vicki) Lewis; his daughter, Kathleen (Chuck) Brown; his grandsons, Derek (Dani) Brown and Timothy (Brandi) Hadden; his granddaughter, Danielle Brown and 4 great grandchildren. Ross was a devoted husband and father, always making sure his family was loved and taken care of.
Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from ten o’clock to eleven o’clock on the morning of Monday, the 23rd of May, 2016 at Resurrection Lutheran Church. Immediately following the visitation, a memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock. The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Barrancas National Cemetery at half past twelve in the afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Lutheran Pre-K, 6305 North Blue Angel Parkway, Pensacola, Florida 32526.
