
William Kelly Smythe, 70, of Pensacola, FL passed away at home on Friday, January 4, 2013. The son of Jack and Martha Smythe (deceased), he was born and educated in Jackson, TN where he received his B.S. Degree from Lambath College in 1964. In 1979 Kelly attended the University of California Graduate School with a Master of Science in Systems Management.
After college Kelly was commissioned as an officer into the Navy where he served for seven years. While stationed in Japan he married his wife of 40 years, Teruko (deceased) in 1969.
After the Navy Kelly’s subsequent career was with Government service contracting firms. He was with Crown Management Services, Inc. of Pensacola, FL from 1985-1988 and 1998-2012 where he was Vice President. He retired in March 2012.
Kelly’s passion was playing bridge from a very young age. He was an excellent bridge player and partner. He was a member of the Board of Directors and Past President of the Pensacola Duplicate Bridge Club, certified director and chaired several Sectional Tournaments. He was a Gold Life Master with over 4,000 points. He will be missed!
Kelly is survived by brother Jackie Smythe (Hazel) of Jackson, TN, sister Mary Alice Dickson (Jim) of Murfreesboro, TN, and preceded in death by his brother Gary Smythe.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Kelly may be sent to the American Cancer Society or a Hospice of your choice.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Pensacola, FL and George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home 2812 N. Highland Ave, in Jackson, TN 38305 (North Chapel) have been entrusted with arrangements.
