Walter Scott McGill III was blessed with sixty-four wonderful years before dying unexpectedly on October 14, 2019. Walt was born in Pensacola, Florida, attended Escambia High School, and then graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Walt was a devoted employee of IBM for thirty-six years and retired in 2014, as a Senior Project Executive. In retirement, Walt established Happy Sands Home Solutions, LLC, a real estate investment company that received national recognition.
Above all, Walt loved his family. After forty-three years of marriage, he leaves behind his wife, Gail, and three children: Robin (Andrew), April (Josh), and Scott (Claire). Walt was affectionately known as “Grampy” to grandchildren: Lily, Rory, Wally, Skye, and Lauryn. He also leaves behind brother Don (Roy), nephew Donald (Maria), and niece Maria (George). Walt was preceded in death by his father Walter Scott McGill Jr., his mother Denbigh McGill, and his sister Frances McGill Yeo.
Walt was involved with the IBM Quarter Century Club, The Pensacola Investment Group, and the Sons of the American Revolution. Walt was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic Georgia Tech fan. Walt was a brother of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was a member at Central Congregational United Church of Christ in Atlanta, Georgia.
Walt’s memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, November 10th, 2019, at 2 pm, at the faith community of his childhood, St. John’s Episcopal Church, 401 Live Oak Avenue, Pensacola, Florida 32507. Walt was a good man, loving husband, wonderful father, great brother, outstanding friend and an amazing grandfather. He was a teacher and mentor to many. He will be greatly missed.
